The scientific article “Electrocoagulation of Hypersaline Tannery Brines: Optimization and Steel-Electrode Corrosion Behavior” was recently published in the prestigious international journal *Environmental Science and Pollution Research*. It addresses the optimization of electrocoagulation processes for the treatment of hypersaline brines, with a special focus on the corrosion behavior of steel electrodes.
The publication was co-authored by two researchers affiliated with CTIC: José Cruz, who was part of the institution until May 2025, and Joaquim Gaião, who continues to work in CTIC’s Research Department.
This work represents a significant contribution to advancing scientific knowledge in the field of brine treatment and recovery in the tanning industry, reinforcing the potential of electrocoagulation as a sustainable technology for the recovery and reuse of brine in Wet-Blue leather pickling processes.
The publication also represents yet another recognition of the quality and relevance of the research conducted by CTIC, highlighting its ability to contribute to scientific and technological advancement at the international level. Of particular note in this context is the work carried out by researcher Joaquim Gaião, whose participation reinforces CTIC’s position as a leader in applied research in the leather sector.
